JIM BEARD AND JON HERINGTON (Steely Dan)
Show 8pm, Plus 5-6pm Guitar Masterclass by Jon Herington - Free to concert ticket holders!
Two long serving members of Steely Dan present their duo show on piano and guitar.
It’s only natural that pianist Jim Beard and guitarist Jon Herington would strike the kind of special accord heard throughout this intimate duo encounter. They’ve shared countless hours in the studio over the years playing on each other’s albums, beginning with Beard’s 1990 debut SONG OF THE SUN and continuing through to Herington’s 2016 album ADULT ENTERTAINMENT.
They’ve worked together as sidemen on recordings by bassist Victor Bailey, saxophonists Bill Evans and Bob Berg, drummer Dennis Chambers and brothers Michael and Randy Brecker. And they’ve shared the bandstand on tour with Steely Dan for the past several years — 20 for Herington, 11 for Beard.
“There are many, many records and gigs and times of our lives,” said Herington, reflecting back on their musical partnership. “Not only that, we’ve been sharing a studio ever since we got to New York, which is probably since 1987.”

Alina Bzhezhinska Quartet
Dock Arts Centre / 13th Feb 2020
Sligo Jazz Project is very proud to co-promote a concert with the Dock Arts Centre on the 13th Feb 2020, part of a Music Network tour by the extraordinary jazz harpist, Alina Bzhezhinska, with a fabulous Quartet including Toni Kofi on Saxophones. We hope this is the first of many collaborations in bringing great music to Sligo and Leitrim.
Alina Bzhezhinska, harp
Tony Kofi, saxophones
Larry Bartley, double bass
Joel Prime, drums / percussion
If you think the harp is for angels then Alina Bzhezhinska and her quartet will set you right. She brings a new perspective to this supposedly dainty instrument, taking the ground-breaking work of Alice Coltrane in the 1960s as a stepping-off point for her own flighty improvisations and sonic adventures.
Capable of high-octane lapel-grabbing statements, she can also create extraordinary lyricism and soul within her own compositions and this versatility and curiosity has marked her out as a pioneer in the field of Jazz Harp. Now there’s two words you don’t often hear in the same sentence, but let’s get used to them because this musician is here to stay, constantly challenging the notion of boundaries in music, roughing up the harp with tones and textures that would ruffle many an angel wing.
Presented by Music Network.
