Theresia Philipp

Theresia Philipp is a saxophonist, clarinetist and composer based in Cologne, Germany. With a unique musical language, she has been making a mark on both as a saxophonist and as a composer in the German and European jazz scene.
She was awarded the Cologne Jazz Prize and the WDR Jazz Prize.
In addition to her work as a bandleader with her projects Pollon with Strings and Ain't I?, she is also active as a sidewoman in various ensembles and released plenty of albums.
As a composer, Philipp works for a wide variety of ensembles. Most recently, she was the leader of the Youth Orchestra of Saxony and composed for the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, for which she was invited several times as a guest conductor. She is currently arranging music by G. Ligeti for the Moers Festival.
T. Philipp was artist in residence at the Klaengfestival Köln and performed on festivals like Jazzfest Berlin, Beograde Jazzfestival, Moers Festival Deutsches Jazzfestival Frankfurt, Venice Jazzfestival. She has been working with Charles McPherson, Pablo Held, Sunna Gunnlaugs, John Taylor, Jim Black, Lionel Loueke, Niels Klein, Shannon Barnett, Jakob Bro, Marilyn Crispel, Julia Hülsmann, Jozef Dumoulin and the Frankfurt Radio Big Band.
