SJP’s 2012 faculty is like a “BEST OF” collection from our previous years. We are happy to announce the return of our friend and mentor Rufus Reid to our double bass faculty, where for the first time he will be joined by another great bassist, John Goldsby, who was our double bass tutor in 2010. The 2012 faculty also includes a return visit for the renowned drum educator and Vanguard Jazz Orchestra drummer, John Riley. John’s CV reads like a who’s who of jazz – he is, simply, one of the most respected jazz musicians around today. Another notable return is our guitar tutor Sandro Gibellini, a student’s favorite and one of Italy’s top men.
Another Italian introduction this year for the first time, is Diana Torto, who has been making a huge impression on the European jazz scene in recent years through her work with Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor amongst others.
We welcome for the first time to Sligo the great UK-based American bassist Michael Janisch, who though recognized widely as one of the best double bassists around, will be tutoring at SJP on his first instrument, electric bass.
Also for the first time, we have UK saxophonist Alan Barnes, a veteran of the UK scene and widely regarded as one of the best teachers around.
2012 also sees returns for US trombone virtuoso Marshall Gilkes, UK piano legend John Taylor, top UK drummer/percussionist Paul Clarvis, Linley Hamilton, trumpet, Dr. David Lyttle and Stephen Davis on drums.
As you can see we have yet again pulled out all the stops with the best of Ireland North and South, Europe, UK and USA.
