UK-based Swedish vocalist Emilia Mårtensson was thrilled to win Vocalist of the Year 2016 at the APPJAG Parliamentary Jazz Awards. In a glitzy reception at the Houses of Parliament, Emilia was presented the award by singer and BBC Radio presenter. Previous winners of the Vocalist of the Year award include the wonderful Norma Winstone MBE and Liane Carroll, both of whom are or were, coincidentally, Sligo Jazz Project tutors, so we are following a good pattern here! 2016 is an exciting year for Emilia as she is releasing an album with her new trio ELDA including upcoming performances at Manchester Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s and a Swedish tour.

Our summer school faculty throws many great international musicians into the mix, resulting in some fabulous combinations over the years, one-off events that edge and sparkle. Continuing our pattern of unique, one-off concert events, tonight we proudly present wonder-bassist Federico Malaman, keyboard virtuoso Gwilym Simcock and drummer David Lyttle. We suspect some sparks will fly!
A man who has taken the internet by storm over the past few years, bass & double bass player, born in ’79, Federico has had the honour of playing and often arranging for major Italian artists like Mario Biondi, Zucchero, Enrico Ruggeri and also played with George Benson, Wilson Picket, Al Jarreau.
