Piano and ensembles for jazz beginners and improvers

A long-standing contributor to the London scene recently relocated to Ireland, Brian led his own groups since the 1970s and also has a reputation as solo pianist, appearing as such at the 2007 Guinness Jazz Festival in Cork.  He’s arranged for Humphrey Lyttelton and the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra, while his books of piano transcriptions included over 50 different pianists.  Brian, a regular tutor at SJP, has lectured on jazz history at various London conservatoires, and has written several books including biographies of Charles Mingus and Charlie Parker.  He is a regular contributor to Jazzwise, the UK’s premier jazz magazine, and presents a weekly one-hour slot on Radio Kerry called That’s Jazz, Wednesdays 9pm-10pm, 96-98FM, broadcast live on the web or as a podcast from www.radiokerry.ie.  His work as an author, journalist, broadcaster and educator has not diminished his love of playing, or his enthusiasm for helping others on their jazz journey.
